Things to Know About Wal-Mart

* Every Wal-Mart has the right to interpret the corporate coupon policy and ad match policy as they wish. Some stores do not like to match Buy One Get One Free deals even if the price is listed. If your local store does match the BOGO deals, they can match one item at full price and the second item free, or they can split the cost between the two items. (Buy one at $5 get one free can easily become two items for $2.50 each when price matching at Wal-Mart) This will not be a big deal in most cases, but it can affect the way you use your coupons with the deal.

* If there is an issue over policy, talk with a manager. Be polite, and respect the manager's decision as the final word. It is their store, and the managers have the right to change the policy as they see fit. If you feel the manager did not handle a situation professionally, call 1-800-WALMART and file a complaint. The cashier does not have the authority to deviate from corporate policy and the CSM doesn't either. You have to talk with a store manager to get the scoop.

*When there is an issue at the register and you ask for a manager, you will get a CSM. Ask again for a store manager. Always get the names of everyone you speak with, it does no good to file a complaint without giving Wal-Mart the means to address the issue. And it is nice to call with positive feedback too.

* Wal-Mart will match advertised prices on store brands (example: ShurFine = Great Value)

* Corporate Policy limits one coupon per item purchased. If you are price matching a competitor's coupon, the store has the right to deny your manufacture's coupon. In most cases, the competitor's coupon will count as a price match and you will be free to use another coupon. Just be aware of the possibility.

* Some stores will price match a deal EXACTLY as it is stated in the advertisement, including "this offer may not be combined with any other coupons" or "you must buy five qualifying items to get the discount". Some stores are very lax about price matching and will even match Walgreen's price after Register Rewards. This is the perfect chance to meet the manager.

* When price matching a store such as CVS or Winn Dixie, if the advertisement states "price with card" Wal-Mart has the right to ask for your customer reward card. Yes, I have every reward card that I have been able to get my hands on. No, I have never been asked to show it to a cashier.
